The course agenda will include:

  • Nature and nurture

Considering the forces of Biology and Social Construct in terms of the child development of Girls and Boys.

  • Style and substance

How girls and boys best learn regarding the issues of reading, speaking and listening, physical manipulation and spatial awareness skills.

  • SEN and girls and boys

Considering the possible reasons for the differences in rates of behaviour and learning difficulties including; ADHD, Autism, dyslexia, dyscalculia and dyspraxia in girls and boys.

  • Emotional intelligence

Looking at the differences in attitudes, thoughts, emotions in terms of academic, behavioural and socialisation areas.

  • Transition

Looking at how best to prepare girls and boys in terms of study skills for transition to secondary school and for those teenage years.

  • Working with mums and dads of girls and boys

Effective communication with parents within a range of school related issues including; academic expectations, bullying, homework, sports and friendship groups.

  • Developing resilience in girls and boys

How to maintain and develop the confidence and self-esteem of boys and girls both of themselves and of the understanding of each other.

The course will consider the following issues:

  • The latest research on child development
  • Strategies for teaching and learning of girls and boys
  • Anecdotes, stories and case studies
